Christmas Surprise and Powerpuff Girls

Thu Dec 24, 2009, 11:40 AM
So I drew up a Christmas present for =GreaterLimits. I have no idea why, maybe because I missed drawing Lucy (she's a cute one after all ^^). Nevertheless, I did.

I didn't expect any compensation. It's a Christmas present, after all, and not exactly one of my best works either (I don't know cursive, in case you can't tell). A return picture would be nice, I always enjoy when people draw my characters, but I'm not one to make demands of others, I'm not that hypocritical.

And so, GreaterLimits got me another three-month subscription.

This would be the third time he's given me one.

And aside from the whole Christmas thing, this is for a dang picture.

I feel like I'm taking unfair advantage of him here. How does this guy have enough cash to spend on a geek like me who failed calculus twice? I mean, he can't be that old, can he? Maybe it's different in the UK, all I know about Britain is Monty Python and The IT Crowd. Hell I can't even keep track of affairs in my own home country, no one can expect me to know the state of the world.

So... Yeah. I have no idea where I'm going with this. I'm grateful, sure, but if you guys think I'm starting to treat GL like a "Get a Subscription Free" card, feel free to slap me sensible.

In other news, I'm more or less hooked on The Powerpuff Girls. Laugh if you want; in my opinion, all thoughts of it being girly go away once you've seen an actual episode. It's like any other superhero show, only with superpowered kidnergarden girls saving the day instead of big strong men (who usually get their butts handed to them the two times such heroes do show up). As such, a Powerpuff Girls installment in the Game Over series has been planned, although I'm not divulging anything else about it for the moment. Currently my favorite characters are Him and Princess; not sure why, I just find them awesome.

Seven Left On Heaven

Thu Oct 29, 2009, 4:27 PM
For those that care (all five of you), my subscription runs out in a week (Nov 5th).

First thing, thanks again to =GreaterLimits for being so kind as to spend his money on me. On two different occasions. Awesome.

This time around was... sorta lame, sorta cool to my last time runnin' on a subscription. On the plus, it was cool having my Stuffed Animal Crackers work at the top of the page (since I'm eager to keep developing it) and having polls, one of which helped me in developing my fursona. On the minus, the header and footer boxes on journals disappeared, so I couldn't automatically copy my lists like before... which, according to one of my past journals, was one of the cited reasons I wanted the subscription in the first place. Aw well.

So it's been cool. I'm thinking I'll get another chapter of K:AinD sketches up this weekend, as well as finally getting some of those sketchbook pages and some of those long-waited (yeah right) OC images, but as always, no promises. Also, for those that are watching my YouTube account for no reason other than hope I post something else, well I'll see what I can do.

Unleash the BOGUS!

Fri Sep 25, 2009, 5:06 PM
So I rented Sonic Unleashed for the Wii last weekend. I expected it to be bad, but I think it could actually be salvagable. Here's some notes, both bad and good, of my experience thus far (I will complete it before I return it if I can because I'm bleepin' hardcore!):

:bulletred: First, I can't be the only one to find it odd that you get Sun Medals during the night stages and Moon Medals during the day stages.
:bulletred: I love the concept of the Gaia Gates, by which I mean having a series of interconnected hubs. The doors look awesome. I also love the background music for them. However, instead of having Chip say the number of Sun and Moon Medals to open the side chambers, they should just have plain displayed above the door.
:bulletred: I perfer the night stages to the day stages because Sonic Team has apparently yet to realize that it is impossible to turn that sharply at high speeds and even more impossible to aim during those drifts.
:bulletred: In Super Mario 64 and other more successful 3D platform games, tilting the control stick a little only moves the character a little. Not so here; any tilt, at least on a GameCube controller, will have Sonic shooting off at max speed. A pain when trying to navigate narrow bridges over life-munching chasms.
:bulletred: On a similar note, during night stages, I keep finding myself having trouble dashing when I want to dash and shooting over the edge of the bridge on all fours just trying to get into a good position to cross without falling.
:bulletred: Horrible camera control trumps no camera control at all. There should especially be camera control in the night stages, or at least when you climb on a narrow platform immediately move the camera behind you (the second night ice stage is a prime example).
:bulletred: So Eggman's trying to unleash an ancient creature to conquer the world? Didn't he do that already with Chaos? Apparently, even with 300 IQ, Eggman has never learned the old proverb "Once bitten, twice shy."
:bulletred: 200 rings in the second continent city is near bleepin' impossible due to already stated issues. And you have to pass that in order to advance the story?!
:bulletred: My favorite parts of the game are the Eggman boss battles (two of them thus far, Egg Beetle and Egg Deviled Ray or something), because they're what show the most promise. Sonic automatically runs and turns to stay on the track while he and Eggman fight on a closed circuit, so you can focus on fighting the boss. Especially cool is the third attack sequence of the Deviled Ray, where the view is from above and you control Sonic not unlike a ship in most overhead arcade shooters like Galaxia where you guide Sonic around the attacks. Awesome.
:bulletred: This just bugs me: the prefix "were-" as in "werewolf" is Old English for "man". So "Werehog" stands for "man-hog" where hog is obviously short for hedgehog. Hasn't that what Sonic has been since game one?!
:bulletred: Am I the only one that thinks that the Werehog is a blaient (SP?) attempt by Sonic to get in on Knuckles' gig? Hello, Sonic Team! Remember Sonic's first real rival? Y'know, the really strong guy that punches stuff?! Like your fancy-smancy Werehog is doing?! I swear, the only difference between the two is the Werehog has noodle arms.
:bulletred: Which brings me to my final point: I think Sonic Team has completely forgotten about the old games. Knuckles, one of the big three hero characters in the early Sonic titles, hasn't seen a playable appearence in a console game since Heroes; if I'm correct, he hasn't even appeared in a 3D Sonic platform since Shadow, and the Master Emerald (which could recharge the Emeralds as well as the Temples of Gaia can) since Adventure 2. Also, while Unleashed supposedly shows the entire Sonic world, Angel Island is nowhere in sight. Oh and let's not forget that the moon is bleepin' whole. I'm sure there's also more evidence that I can't quite recall. Any way, someone at Sonic Team has to get a grip on the past.

Yes, I've started posting this at last. I'll be doing each of the five chapters, one chapter at a time. For the night, though, I'm done.

Not Again!

Sun Aug 23, 2009, 7:05 AM
Tomorrow I go back to college.

And I've yet to scan any of the sketches I promised all summer.

See, this is why I don't like making promises, since I can't even keep them.

Anyways, I got Rhythm Heaven for my birthday and been playing it since, and it's pretty good, some stages are pretty fun. But I wanna shoot the guys that came up with Rhythm Rally. And Rhythm Rally 2. And Remix 8. And Moai Doo-Wop. Remix 3 and Big Rock Finish aren't all that hot with me either. On the good side are Built to Scale, Shoot-'Em-Up, Love Lab, Freeze Frame, Splashdown, Dog Ninja, and Karate Man.
